Furniture and Wooden Goods

Fumigation of furniture, wooden goods and wooden handicrafts before export, with a bilingual certificate carrying a QR code.

Fumigation of furniture and wooden goods for export

GCC fumigates furniture and wooden goods before export, including tables and chairs, cabinets and shelving, beds, decorative woodwork and wooden handicrafts. Treatment is carried out at the client's warehouse or workshop, or at Cat Lai port, Cai Mep port or the Tan Thanh border gate (Lang Son), under our licence for treating goods subject to plant quarantine.

Why fumigation is needed

Solid wood, even when painted or finished, can still hide wood borer eggs and larvae deep inside, where they cannot be seen with the naked eye. Borers can keep developing inside the container during the voyage and damage the goods on arrival. Many importing countries require a fumigation certificate for wooden goods. A shipment without a certificate, or with live insects, may be held, re-treated or sent back at the port of destination.

How GCC helps

  • Fumigation of goods already loaded in containers, or at the warehouse or workshop before loading
  • Advice on the right method for each product and for the importing country's requirements
  • Bilingual English and Vietnamese treatment certificate with a QR code for verification, issued about 10 minutes after treatment when documents are complete
  • ISPM 15 treatment of accompanying pallets and wooden crates, arranged when the shipment needs it

Before you book

Please tell us the product type, materials (solid wood, engineered wood, or combined with rattan, fabric or metal), packing, number of containers, treatment location, destination country and loading date. GCC will recommend a method and assign the right team.

Frequently asked questions

  • Does painted or finished wooden furniture need fumigation? It depends on the importing country's rules and the buyer's requirements. Contact GCC for advice on your specific product and destination.
  • Does furniture made from engineered wood (MDF, plywood) need fumigation? Engineered wood is usually not subject to mandatory treatment, but some buyers still ask for a certificate. Accompanying pallets and crates made of solid wood still need ISPM 15 treatment.
  • How long does it take to get the certificate? About 10 minutes after treatment, provided the documents are complete.
  • How can overseas partners verify the certificate? Scan the QR code on the certificate, or use the certificate lookup page on the GCC website.
